MCPF coming up with more cyber crime awareness campaign

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Crime Prevention Foundation (MCPF) is coming up with cyber crime prevention programmes in school and universities in a move to create more awareness on the matter.

The programme which will be carried out with a private company, hoped to create understanding among the young generation on the danger of misusing the social networks such as Facebook or MySpace, its vice-chairman Datuk Kamarudin Md Ali told reporters here on Saturday.

Kamaruddin earlier signed a memorandum of understanding with ICT Utopia Sdn Bhd's director, Chong Tuck Wayn, to collaborate on the programme.

It was witnessed by Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Wira Mohamad Sabtu Osman.

To mark the beginning of the collaboration, the company, a subsidary of Tejari Technologies Bhd, donated six laptops to MCPF.

Kamaruddin said the young needed to be advised on the danger of abusing the social networking facilities, and taught the positive use of the facilities.

He also urged parents to do regular monitoring on their children, especially those below 15 years, who were Facebook or MySpace members as a move to avoid them being easly influenced by negative and wrong information.

The public should also assist the police in preventing cyber crime involving the young, and hoped that more private sectors would partake in the awareness campaign, he added.
